Surviving In The Shadows was written and conceived to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Breadalbane Cricket Club. It is much more than the history of one small, rural cricket team however. It is a history and social document, covering the past 150 years. The book tells the story of people's lives, from the poorest to the wealthiest and most influential, and how the cricket club bore witness to and impacted on lives here in Highland Perthshire. There are some surprising revelations about the cricket club's links with the origins of test cricket, and with some of the most famous players to ever play the game. Surviving In The Shadows is a testament to endurance, friendships, overcoming indifference and obstacles, and most importantly to a love of the greatest game ever created. With a mix of humour, tragedy, history and great characters, the book (at over 300 pages and more than 200 photographs) might just be the most comprehensive study of a village cricket club ever written.
