The Zi'veyn

"The bones told of a deceiver that had carved and strung the world. That existence was viewed through a mirror. That down was up, that white was black..." The kentaur's bleak eyes sank onto him. "That everything anyone thought they were looking at was a lie."

The Devoted is a story of rediscovery, corruption of belief, broken shackles and found family laced with bold-faced deception, biological magic and the history of a long-dead people.

Cataclysmic magic is snaking its way through the continent of Arasiin, leaving power-soaked chasms and half-degraded spells in its wake. Thousands of people have already fallen to its charms and destruction, and countries closest to the source have crumbled off the map. It's only a matter of time before the rest go the same way.

And so banished warmage, Rathen Koraaz, is manipulated onto the path of his home country's salvation. Joined by a rigid officer of the Hall of the White Hammer, a historian, duelist, tribal and Rathen's own 8-year-old daughter, the unlikely, fractious group merge to find some way of bringing the matter to an end before the magic can rip their homes and people apart.

But there is more moving in the shadows.
While the public point fingers towards the already oppressed Order of Mages for the arcane destruction, Salus, head of the country's royal department of intelligence, takes matters into his own hands to protect the country he's sworn himself to - with dire consequences.

While Rathen fights against his own limitations to stop what should already be an impossibility, he now has to keep away from Salus's hunters and simultaneously find a way to shut the man down before Salus's misguided sense of dedication can hasten the country's fall. Against all else, personal strifes must be either overcome or embraced if either side is to succeed.
